The Javascript shown below is used to initialise the table shown in this example:

var table = $('#example').DataTable({ layout: { topStart: { buttons: [ 'colvis', { extend: 'createState', config: { creationModal: true, toggle: { columns: { search: true, visible: true } } } }, 'savedStates' ] } }, initComplete: function () { this.api() .columns() .every(function () { var column = this; var title = column.footer().textContent; // Create input element and add event listener $('<input type="text" placeholder="Search ' + title + '" />') .appendTo($(column.footer()).empty()) .on('keyup change clear', function () { if (column.search() !== this.value) { column.search(this.value).draw(); } }); }); } }); // Column filtering inputs are not written to by DataTables (since it does not // create them), so on state load, we need to do that. table.on('stateLoaded', function (e, s, data) { data.columns.forEach(function (col, i) { if (col.search) { $('input', table.column(i).footer()).val(col.search.search); } }); });
let table = new DataTable('#example', { layout: { topStart: { buttons: [ 'colvis', { extend: 'createState', config: { creationModal: true, toggle: { columns: { search: true, visible: true } } } }, 'savedStates' ] } }, initComplete: function () { this.api() .columns() .every(function () { let column = this; let title = column.footer().textContent; // Create input element let input = document.createElement('input'); input.placeholder = title; column.footer().replaceChildren(input); // Event listener for user input input.addEventListener('keyup', () => { if (column.search() !== this.value) { column.search(input.value).draw(); } }); }); } }); // Column filtering inputs are not written to by DataTables (since it does not // create them), so on state load, we need to do that. table.on('stateLoaded', function (e, s, data) { data.columns.forEach(function (col, i) { let input = table.column(i).footer().querySelector('input'); if (input && col.search) { input.value = col.search.search; } }); });

In addition to the above code, the following Javascript library files are loaded for use in this example:

    The HTML shown below is the raw HTML table element, before it has been enhanced by DataTables:

    This example uses a little bit of additional CSS beyond what is loaded from the library files (below), in order to correctly display the table. The additional CSS used is shown below:

    tfoot input { width: 100%; }

    The following CSS library files are loaded for use in this example to provide the styling of the table:

      This table loads data by Ajax. The latest data that has been loaded is shown below. This data will update automatically as any additional data is loaded.

      The script used to perform the server-side processing for this table is shown below. Please note that this is just an example script using PHP. Server-side processing scripts can be written in any language, using the protocol described in the DataTables documentation.
